Case Study: Witches Falls Winery
Witches Falls Winery is one of Queensland’s largest wine producers and has been producing wine on Mount Tamborine for 20 years. Witches Falls is one of the region’s most well known and popular cellar doors, offering a range of locally produced cheeses, patés, relishes to pair with their own wines. Agribusiness
The Scenic Rim’s pristine environment, fertile soils and water security make it an ideal location for agribusiness. Agriculture is the largest industry in the Scenic Rim, representing almost 20% of the economy. In 2023, the region produced $300 million in agricultural products. The region has rich basalt soil, a temperate climate and approximately 1,500mm of average annual rainfall, making it ideal for growing a wide range of crops. Equally, the region has a long history of beef, dairy cattle and poultry.
Beyond the 1,500mm of average annual rainfall, the region also has three dams (Lake Moogerah, Lake Maroon and Lake Wyaralong) to support water security with a combined capacity of 231,000 ML and numerous irrigation schemes in place which provide water security for local producers.
Case Study: AE Hinrichsen & Co (part of Kalfresh)
Utilising the fertile soils of the region, AE Hinrichsen & Co is a fourth generation farming family business, growing and supplying carrots, beans, pumpkins and onions to Kalfresh Vegetables. The business'Kalfresh' operates its owna state-of-the-art packaging facility, washing, processing and packaging products for the national market, including hundreds of Woolworths stores, as well as overseas markets. Agritourism
The beautiful backdrop of the Scenic Rim currently supports a strong agricultural industry across a diverse array of crops and animals, which presents an ideal location for agri-tourism. The Scenic Rim Regional Council has recently amended its planning scheme to make it easier for agricultural producers to have onsite, complementary business activities, such as accommodation.

Summer Land Camels is the largest camel farm and dairy in Australia and produces a range of award-winning products including milk, cheese, skincare and other products. Summer Land Camels also operates a number of visitor experiences including camel rides, farm tours and cameleer experiences as well as operating the onsite Homestead café and farm store.
Renewables and Sustainability
The Bromelton State Development Area is one of the largest industrial precincts in Australia. The precinct includes direct access to the main North-South rail line between Sydney and Brisbane and is adjacent to the Mount Lindesay Highway, providing access to the Logan Motorway and Pacific Motorway. The precinct is ideal for large scale recycling, waste to value conversion, bioenergy and other large-scale, complex industrial activities.
Case Study: AJ Bush and Sons (Manufactures) Pty Ltd
AJ Bush and Sons has a meat by-product rendering plant at the Bromelton Industrial Estate that produces protein and fat products that are sold in the domestic and export markets. The facility is the most technologically advanced rendering plants in the world. AJ Bush and Sons has implemented a number of technologies and processes to increase its energy efficiency and reduce its carbon emissions. Most notably, it has installed a biogas collection system and generators so that they can produce their own electricity for their processing using waste streams from the production process itself. They currently produce just under half of all their electricity needs and are currently planning expansion of the system that will enable AJ Bush and Sons to export 2MW of green electricity to the grid.
Tourism
The Scenic Rim has spectacular landscapes, six national parks, the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests, eco-adventures, fresh local produce, craft wines and beverages, and colourful characters. The Scenic Rim region receives 1.6 million visitors and 1.9 million visitor nights annually and is growing quickly.

Beechmont Estate is the most recent tourism accommodation investment in the Scenic Rim region, opening in 2021. Beechmont Estate features 17 luxury cabins, three larger luxury pavilions, a day spa, a restaurant and bar. The property has been built on a former dairy farm, which was earlier converted to a Wagyu cattle and polo farm. The new property has already won numerous awards and its restaurant, The Paddock, has been awarded two Chef Hats. It focuses on sourcing local ingredients, including maintaining its own market garden.
